Let me start off by first stating that all these products are excellent antivirus programs. No matter which one you go with, you are doing the net a big favour by protecting your computer. In this roundup, we are looking at Norton Antivirus 2003, Computer Associates InoculateIT 6.0, Trend PC-Cillin 2003, and Panda Antivirus Platinum 7.0. I will not be rating these products on a scale. What I will do is present all the facts about these antivirus products and allow you to come to your own conclusions about what is best for you. I will be evaluating the Windows 98SE version of these antivirus products. Some of the features change depending on the OS you use. My system is an Asus p3v4x running Windows 98SE with 1.2Gig of PC133 RAM, P3-933 processor, Promise Ultra-133 controller with 3 Harddrives running in ULTRADMA modes 4 and 5, and an ATI XPERT@WORK 98 PC video card. I have all of the latest patches install off of Windows Update, ATI, VIATECH, PROMISE, ASUS, and the latest MDAC 2.7r1 with JET 4.0 SP5 and Visual Basic runtime SP5 -- incase you were wondering. Each product has a unique feature set which will attract a different type of buyer. For example, Panda is the only product in the lineup that can scan into Netscape e-mail folders. This may be of little use to you if you use Outlook, but may be a deciding factor if you use Netscape for e-mail. First in our roundup is Norton Antivirus 2003. This is the largest of the products weighing in at about 30MB. This is in part because of the rich feature set. Click here to continue analysis. |
